about marilyn batt
Having brush in hand, applying oil to canvas and wax to panel and getting results that often surprise and occasionally satisfy, and the pleasure of being transported mentally to a different and calming place -- those are the reasons I paint.
Oil painting lessons at the Gage, taught by Milo Duke, introduced me to this medium. Appreciating his way of teaching—and his tolerance (encouragement, even) of my desire to experiment with various styles -- I re-enrolled in his classes for several quarters. When he left Gage and established the 54th Street Atelier, I was among the students who met weekly to paint, receive instruction from Mr. Duke, and provide/receive encouragement from other students. The Atelier disbanded after more than a decade when Milo Duke moved to St Louis.
Past paintings mostly were in oil; current works are encaustic and acrylic.
